Free Eye Surgery Exercise Supports Sefwi Wiawso Constituents

A free eye surgery exercise was held at Greenshield Clinic in Mpomam on 4 May 2026 for eligible constituents who had participated in an earlier eye-screening programme. The initiative was organised under the leadership of Hon. Kofi Benteh Afful, Member of Parliament for Sefwi Wiawso Constituency, as part of his continued commitment to improving access to quality healthcare.

The surgery exercise followed a community eye-screening programme through which individuals requiring further medical treatment were identified.

Eligible beneficiaries were invited to attend the clinic with the documents provided during the screening. This helped the medical team confirm their records and provide the appropriate care. Through the exercise, participating constituents successfully underwent surgery and began their recovery towards improved vision. Clear vision is essential for everyday activities, education, employment, independence and a better quality of life. However, the cost and availability of specialist eye care can prevent some people from receiving the treatment they require. This initiative was therefore designed to reduce that barrier and connect eligible constituents with the necessary surgical care. The positive outcomes recorded during the exercise demonstrate the importance of combining community screening with access to follow-up treatment.

Hon. Kofi Benteh Afful expressed his sincere appreciation to the medical professionals and support staff whose dedication contributed to the successful delivery of the programme. Appreciation was also extended to everyone who assisted with the screening, beneficiary coordination and organisation of the surgery exercise.
